Panerai Company History:

Panerai was founded in 1860 by Giovanni Panerai in Florence, Italy. The company is well known for their Radiomir and Luminor watches, distinguished for their use by Italian commando frogmen who used their Panerai watches to aid in the sinking of Allied naval vessels in WWII. Panerai eventually started selling their watches to the civilian market and remained relatively unknown until Sylvester Stallone purchased a watch to wear for his role in the movie Daylight. He then ordered a small batch with his signature on the case back of each one and gave the watches to his close friends including Arnold Schwarzenegger. Panerai created a Ferrari Perpetual Calendar Special Edition Watch for the 60th anniversary of Ferrari and received an award for Best Special Edition at the Middle East Watch Awards 2007. Panerai issues many watches as either limited or special editions making fewer watches than the market demands. Retail stores may only receive a few watches per year and there is a long waiting list for some of the popular models.
